Hope

pornography addiction: is there hope?

I am here to tell you that YES, there is hope! If you have been battling with pornography addiction for months, years, or decades, it often feels hopeless. Everything you have tried has failed. It seems like nothing will work and you cannot break free. But I am telling you--as one who has walked this path myself--there is hope. There is an abundance of help available to you. If you have hope and take advantage of the help available, you will find complete healing.

Seeking Hope In Addiction to Pornography

Hope is the first step in anything we do. If we had no hope of ever getting in shape, we would not work out. If we had no hope of getting married, we would not date. If we had no hope of getting a job, we would not go to an interview. If we had no hope of learning a new skill, we would not take lessons. Were it not for hope, we would not try anything because we would not believe that we could do it.

The same goes for recovering from porn addiction. If you do not have hope of addiction recovery, you won't even try. Often we start off with hope of overcoming our vice, but after repeated failed attempts, we start to lose hope. If it was possible, I surely would have figured it out by now, we think to ourselves. This hopelessness is a scary and dangerous feeling. It is common to hear this saying in many different contexts: "you have not failed until you quit trying." While it may be cliche, this is absolutely true. And the reason we would quit trying is due to a lack of hope. As long as you are without hope, you will not find recovery.

Finding Hope From Others' Success With Porn Addiction

One great way to restore hope of recovery from an addiction to pornography is to find and surround yourself with success stories. We eventually start to think, If they can do it, so could I! This is one reason why recovery cannot be done alone. It is critical to be surrounded by others who have struggles similar to yours, and are having success with overcoming them. While recovery is extremely difficult--the most challenging thing I have ever done in  my life--it is possible. I am doing it, and so are thousands of others of recovering addicts who are no better than you. So why can't you do it too?
