You don't have to navigate this alone, and you don't have to choose just one path. Many people combine more than one of these as they work through recovery.
Therapy, Coaching, or a Support Group: What's the Difference?
Therapy gives you a trained professional to explore the deeper roots of your addiction, especially if past trauma or other mental health struggles are part of the picture. A good therapist can help you understand not just what you're doing, but why.
Coaching is more action-focused. Rather than spending most of the time exploring the past, a coach works with you on practical steps, daily habits, and accountability moving forward. That's the approach I take myself, and it's reflected in the Jumpstart program.
Support groups, like 12-step programs, give you something therapy and coaching can't: community. Meeting regularly with others who understand exactly what you're going through, and working through the steps with a sponsor, provides a kind of solidarity that's hard to replace.
Many people find that combining two or even all three of these gives them the most complete support. There's no single right answer, only what actually works for you.
Find a Therapist or Coach
AASAT Certified Therapist & Coach Directory This directory comes from Dr. Doug Weiss's own organization, the American Association for Sex Addiction Therapy, the same training I went through myself. It's organized by state and includes both licensed therapists and certified coaches.
IITAP Therapist Directory Search for CSAT-credentialed therapists, another respected certification in this field, founded by Dr. Patrick Carnes.
Psychology Today A broader, general therapist directory. Less specialized than the above, but useful if you want more options filtered by insurance or location.
Find a Support Group
Sex Addicts Anonymous (SAA) In-person and virtual 12-step meetings.
Sexaholics Anonymous (SA) A faith-friendly 12-step option.
LDS Addiction Recovery Program (ARP) Meeting Finder Includes dedicated Pornography Addiction Support Groups (PASG) for men and women, alongside general recovery meetings. Open to members and non-members alike.
Celebrate Recovery Group Finder Christian-based recovery groups for a range of addictions, including pornography and sexual addiction.
A note on these links: these are independent organizations not affiliated with Moral Support Coach. I'm pointing you toward them because I trust their reliability, not because I control or guarantee what you'll find there.
Virtual Pornography Addiction Recovery Program
Face-to-face support is often the better path, but I know that's not always realistic. Time, money, distance, or just not being ready to talk to someone yet, any of these can stand between you and the help above.
That's why I built Jumpstart Your Recovery, a 12-day self-guided program covering the same daily actions I use with coaching clients. All you need is an internet connection, and you can start today. Learn More About Jumpstart
